Daniela Nardi’s Espresso Manifesto is a musical and cultural experience that is attracting national and international audiences alike. With the release of The Songs of Paolo Conte, critics and reviewers globally sang its praises and made Nardi’s Espresso Manifesto a top pick with Jazz and World music lovers, charting #1 & #2 on music charts through Canada and the US, as well receiving rave reviews from JazzTimes and Jazz Weekly.
Recent live dates had Daniela Nardi’s Espresso Manifesto playing to sold out houses with a 2 night stint at the prestigious Montreal Jazz Festival, a highly anticipated appearance at Toronto’s international star venue Koerner Hall (sharing the night with guitar legend John Pizzarelli) and a 2014 tour of Russia. The labor of love celebration of the legendary Italian singer/songwriter Paolo Conte set Nardi on a journey of music and personal discovery which continues on CANTO.
CANTO scheduled for release on October 16th, sees Nardi applying her sublime interpretive skills to 10 timeless songs by some of Italy’s greatest jazz and pop composers. As Well, CANTO finds Nardi lending her songwriting hand again with an original contribution to this eclectic and intoxicating collection. With an international spin, fluid expressive vocals and effortless organic instrumental arrangements that incorporate elements of blues, soul and bossa nova, CANTO is a refreshing blend of old-world romanticism and modernist cool.
Nardi’s intercontinental journey had her recording between Toronto and Naples with Italian producer Antonio Fresa. The sessions drew upon an international cast featuring some of Canada’s and Italy’s most prominent jazz musicians. The results for CANTO is music that is both intimate and universal, exotic and sophisticated, taking the remarkable achievements of The Songs of Paolo Conte to inspired new heights.

This performance at Lula Lounge on October 28th is very much a celebration and homecoming for Nardi and her bandmates in Espresso Manifesto. This special evening, Nardi will be presenting the music from the new album CANTO in a very intimate and personal setting. With a simple and direct quintet arrangement, Nardi will perform the songs from her new album in a manner which will allow the listener to wrap themselves in the story behind the words and allow themselves to be intoxicated by the fluid and effortless arrangements.
This intercontinental creation will take you on a journey through old world romanticism and modernist cool.
Selection of songs for the evening include all tracks recorded on CANTO as well, a few from DNEM’s previous release “The Songs of Paolo Conte”
