Welcome to the final concert of the 117th season of the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto’s Music in the Afternoon. This season we proudly present some of the most sought-after musicians on the world stage as well as younger performers who will surely be in that position before too long.
Ensemble Made In Canada (Elissa Lee, violin; Sharon Wei, viola; Rachel Mercer, cello; Angela Park, piano) is rapidly gaining recognition as one of Canada's premier chamber ensembles. Past WMCT scholarship winners Elissa Lee, violin, and Rachel Mercer, cello, are joined by Sharon Wei, viola, and Angela Park, piano, bringing together a shared love of chamber music and a wealth of international experience.
Ensemble Made In Canada regularly performs at the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, Festival of the Sound, and the Stratford Music Festival, and recently also performed for Montreal’s Pro Musica, State University of New York at New Paltz, and Toronto’s Syrinx. The Ensemble has provided master classes, chamber music coaching, and lectures at universities across Canada and in the United States, and has participated in outreach programmes for public schools in Ontario. In addition, the Ensemble has performed in festivals including Marlboro, Ravinia, Orford, Verbier, Prussia Cove, Pablo Casals, and Evian. The Ensemble recently received grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, and Queen’s University.
Ensemble Made In Canada will première a WMCT commission by Canadian composer Christopher Mayo.
