Event Details

junctQín keyboard collective presents a portrait concert of Finnish composer Tomi Räisänen.  This event is a culmination of a week-long residency by Räisänen, hosted by junctQín, featuring performance workshops, a composition forum, and several Canadian and one world premiere.

Tomi Räisänen’s music reaches widely combining diverse elements from structuralism to free jazz to incorporating unusual instruments including works for toy pianos and balloons.  He has cultivated a unique musical voice through use of vivid textures and wildly virtuosic instrumental writing.  The portrait concert will feature six works by Tomi -three of which are being performed for the first time in Canada.  A new work for piano six-hands commissioned by junctQín will receive its world premiere.  Pianists Elaine Lau, Joseph Ferretti, and Stephanie Chua of junctQín keyboard collective will be joined by Finnish/Canadian pianist Heidi Saario and Canadian guitarist Rob MacDonald.

Produced with the support of the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, and the Embassy of Finland.
