Lara St. John, violin

Matt Herskowitz, piano

Ontario-born violin virtuoso Lara St. John has been described as ‘something of a phenomenon’ by The Strad and a ‘high-powered soloist’ by the New York Times, for her performances of the standard repertoire from Bach to the present.  With Montreal pianist, Matt Herskowitz Lara brings her recent Shiksa project to our stage. Over many years Lara has collected traditional folk tunes from the Jewish Diaspora, Eastern Europe, Balkans, Caucasus and Middle East.  She presents these, re-imagined by today’s composers, and performed with stunning élan, in ‘a storm of perfection.’  A spectacular opening to the 120th season of Music in the Afternoon, coupled with a major sonata from the violin/piano repertoire.
