SEAN BELLAVITI & CONJUNTO LACALU

Toronto Latin powerhouse ensemble Sean Bellaviti & Conjunto Lacalu is at the leading edge of Canada’s salsa revival. Rooting itself in the Cuban conjunto tradition, this internationally renowned 12-piece ensemble couples a dynamic three-trumpet horn section with a rhythm section featuring Afro-Cuban percussion, piano, bass and Cuban tres guitar.

Featuring primarily original compositions as well as a number of original arrangements Conjunto Lacalu’s sound and and style pay homage its predecessors such as Conjunto Clasico and Sonora Ponceña. Their debut release Toronto Grooves! a tribute to the ensemble’s home-base and North America’s northernmost salsa centre. This album aims to capture the tremendous creativity that is happening right now in Toronto’s salsa scene. Backed by Canadian indie label Lulaworld Records the album includes special guests Herman Olivera.

Presented by Lula Music and Arts Centre with support from Toronto Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, Canadian Heritage and The Government of Ontario. Sponsored by CIUT 89.5 FM, Exclaim!, Barocco Coffee, Toronto Hispano, Telelatino/ Univision, Latinos Magazine and La Guia.
