THE FASHION-DESIGNER AND THE FASHIONCONSUMER: VICTIMS OF STYLE AND DRESS
The expression ˮfashion victimsˮ may conjure up images of high-heeled, trussed up female consumers with no personal style. Yet there is a long history of fashions that have harmed the health of the women who made and wore them. Whether it was toxic colours made using arsenic or lovely tutus that caught fire on stage, this talk reveals the deadly stories hidden in the wings of fashion. By Alison Matthews David, Associate Professor in the School of Fashion, Ryerson University. Her most recent research project, Fashion Victims, included a book published by Bloomsbury in 2015 and a major exhibition co-curated with Elizabeth Semmelhack at the Bata Shoe Museum (exhibition from June 2014 to May 2018).
