Sound the trumpets! There’s going to be some raucous noise when Ron Davis and SYMPHRONICA team up with the badass boys of the Hogtown Brass Quintet. A one-of-a-kind collaboration: jazz + strings + brass, playing everything from standards to world to pop music. This concert will literally blow the roof off the Lula Lounge.
SYMPHRONICA is the brilliant brainchild of highly acclaimed pianist/ leader / composer and ToRONtonian Ron Davis (“one of the great minds in jazz” - JAZZ.FM). Like Toronto, SYMPHRONICA is eclectic, beautiful and multicultural city. Davis drives SYMPHRONICA to cover a huge musical range – from Lady Gaga to Glenn Gould – and a rich range of collaborating artists – from rock guitairst Jason Nett and the Japanese drum group Nagata Shachu to Argentinian dance sensations The Lombard Twins. SYMPHRONICA’s home since 2013 has been Toronto’s fabled Lula Lounge, host to some of the finest music anywhere. SYMPHRONICA has been a brilliant light in a shining music scene.
The Hogtown Brass Quintet (HBQ) is reinvigorating the classic brass ensemble. A collaboration among five Toronto-based young, hip, accomplished and diverse musicians. the HBQ is committed to presenting unique concert experiences, entertaining and informative programs, in addition to bringing brass music to new audiences. The members of HBQ reflect diverse musical backgrounds, from Classical to pop to jazz.
