Event Details

Ensemble Polaris is happy to launch their latest recorded project into the world – A DVD!

Yes, a DVD, how very retro.

FROM ICELAND TO THE MOON features short films old and new, accompanied by music created and/or arranged by members of the band and by Andrew Downing, and two soundtracks improvised by the band. The films include the 1902 classic ‘Le Voyage dans la lune’ by Georges Méliès, Gabriele Grotto’s ‘Ego sum resurrectio,’ films by Ryerson filmmakers Pierre Tremblay and Gerda Cammaer, and films shot on location in Iceland by Ryerson Image Arts alumni Liz Gibson-DeGroote and Alicia Harris.

Come see some of the films, enjoy some convivial company (and beverages), and take in some special musical entertainment, including tunes for small pipes courtesy of Kirk Elliot, adventures on the kantele with Alison Melville, and other offerings. Band members Colin Savage, Katherine Hill and Jeff Wilson will also be there, as will Ben Grossman who made a cameo reappearance with the band for two soundtracks in this project. (Marco Cera and Margaret Jordan-Gay will be with us in spirit and on soundtrack, though they’ll be gigging elsewhere!)

We hope you’ll join us for this celebratory evening – everyone’s most welcome!
