Tout au long du 19 e siècle, des milliers d’immigrants et voyageurs débarquent dans nos ports. D’autres, cependant, font voile (ou vapeur) en sens inverse, dont de nombreux Métis et Autochtones.

L’histoire témoigne d’une évolution constante tout au long du siècle dans les relations entre Autochtones, Métis et l’Europe. C’est une histoire peu connue, particulièrement troublante et digne d’attention, riche d’enseignements, quelquefois inattendue et souvent émouvante.

Throughout the 19th century, thousands of immigrants and travellers landed in our ports. Others, however, sailed (or steamed) in the opposite direction, including many Métis and Aboriginal Peoples.

History bears witness to a constant evolution throughout the century in the relations between Aboriginal Peoples, the Métis, and Europe. It is a little known story, particularly disturbing and worthy of attention, rich in lessons, a story sometimes unexpected and often moving.
